Kind of a slanted view of the events today, but it illustrates how these representatives are fed lines from the parties.? I’m sure Dodd had plenty of marketing-fed catch phrases in his 10 hour pseudo filibuster.? I didn’t look very hard, but I couldn’t find too many sources that were claiming this as an actual filibuster, I wonder if the threat of a filibuster is all it takes to kill or delay a bill?? Maybe we can outsource that step to a poorer country.

Sometimes I’m too lazy to fast forward through commercials even though I can.? Today I saw an ad that ran on Drawn Together episode (the one where they’re all babies) and saw really fancy ad for fountain pens.? Most of what made it ffancy was the guy with the british accent who did the narration, but they really sold the pen to you.? It was a nice model and sturdy too, at least according to the demo where it was shoved through a soda can and then it still wrote.? The strange part was that they waited until the last 10 seconds to tell you it was part of a set of 5 or 6 pens, with all varieties of tips.? After they drop that bombshell they then told me I could get this great product at my local CVS and Walgreens.? I wonder how often this ad works for them when run at 23:30, and the demographic of the purchasers?

I read this article today about SimpleDB from Amazon and I noticed this paragraph that gave an example application implementation of the Amazon Web Services Suite.

Amazon SimpleDB is designed to integrate easily with other web-scale services such as Amazon EC2 and Amazon S3. For example, developers can run their applications in Amazon EC2 and store their data objects in Amazon S3. Amazon SimpleDB can then be used to query the object metadata from within the application in Amazon EC2 and return pointers to the objects stored in Amazon S3.

That’s putting a lot of power in the hands of Amazon, and I’m not sure if companies are ready to
trust them that much.? Would they have the sameencryption requirements as things that get off-shored, since the data doesn’t live in a specific place, or does the whole option get ignored in order to keep data in house?

It does open the door for some interesting hosted third party applications, but I don’t see it working without eating the storage costs instead of letting the customer pay for the bill directly, otherwise the customer won’t see the value of the application.? I could be wrong though.
