Finally got around to working on the kitchen a little more this weekend, as I’ve been putting it off for a while. We now have almost all of the parts necessary to make a kitchen carefully assembled and hanging out in the Kitchen and dining room area. After getting the crown molding and wall cabinets up last weekend I felt it was time to fasten the floor cabinets to the wall and work on arranging the cabinets in the order they need to be in for the countertops to be installed.

First I had to drill through the furniture in several places in order to get to a stud in the wall, as the cabinets didn’t line up with studs on any of the walls. After drilling several unnecessary starter holes I ended up doing minimal amount pf damage to the furniture and walls. Unfortunately the new Saltillo tile is pretty apparent upon walking into the room. I can only hope that I can find some cleaner for the old tile that will spruce it up to look a little closer to the new tile. I don’t care if Saltillo is supposed to be unique; it’s a pain in the ass to blend it in with older Saltillo. If you ever have the choice of adding more tiles to existing ones do yourself a favor and don’t. It will probably never match and your wife will hold it against you forever.

So now the kitchen is actually starting to resemble a kitchen, with cabinets and everything. I especially like how the cabinets offset the green from the walls. I managed to only get a few pictures of the crown, but it really looks good. Yay for Paul and I (mostly Paul)!

This first picture is of the extremely country doors we will be installing on the cabinets. After we’re done we will have a square dance.

Nothing else exciting happened over the weekend. We are dull. I spent the morning reading some of the posts on the weblog of Heather Armstrong that I found from a link via J-Walk. I was happy to find that some one else had the poor sense the remodel at an un-opportune time (eighth month of pregnancy) as Brandy and I did. Although they seemed to finish it up much quicker, so maybe we need some thing life changing to scare us into finishing it up. You can find a detailed photo gallery of their kitchen escapade Here.
